Webb County Commissioner Sergio "Keko" Martinez and former Sheriff Rick Flores are being accused of threats and offenses.
Local Webb County resident John Folk reported to police that Commissioner Martinez, who is running for reelection next year and former Sheriff Flores reported to Folk's residence and asked him to remove a campaign painting he had on a wall near Corpus Christi and Monterrey Street of Martinez's opponent Jaime Canales.
Folk said Canales paid him to place his campaign advertisement on the wall, Martinez insisted him that he would pay him to remove it. Folk refused, therefore according to Folk, Commissioner Martinez was bothered, then he descended from his Jeep and presumably he told him: "We can resolve this here and now" and "I will kick you in the rear that is what is needed".
Apparently Flores intervened and asked Martinez to return to the Jeep and calmed himself. Martinez urged Folk to have the campaign ad of Canales removed by July, 4th if not face consequences for him and his family.

A few years back during one of the WBCA parades down San Bernardo, my cousin and myself woke up early (dawn) one Saturday morning so that we could walk to San Bernardo street and save some SIDEWALK area for our chairs. After sitting there for about an hour and a half, our family began arriving. This was at the corner of San Bernardo and Benavides (where Mr. Martinez has or had an office). At about the same moment, Mr. Martinez arrived with his "family" and proceeded to try and kick us off the sidewalk. Stating that it was his property (keep in mind, it was the SIDE WALK!). We refused to move, so he agreed we could stay for a charge ($15 a head). Of course we refused. But his family didn't help the situation either, making comments like "you don't know who you're messing with" and "you should show a little more respect for someone like Keko" (in spanish).
What language does he speak? Anyone? I've heard him on TV and Public Access and I just can't figure it out. Is it spanish or english? Maybe he is so smart that he started his own language, and believe me it's not tex-mex either.

ReplyDelete"Keko" is displaying his true colors. He's under achieved as commissioner. The law degree which he often touts hasn't brought any added benefit to his position as comissioner. The commissioner's office doesn't need a law degree, especially one that lacks a sincere desire to serve the people of Laredo. Motivation and passion to serve the people of Laredo is what Jaime Canales will bring to the commissioner's position. The people of Laredo deserve better.

I have read all these comments...of course its time for everyone to start talking smack about the people running. However its funny that most of you all are commenting anonymously. This guy does have an attitude but you know what I like him. He goes against anyone and everyone,whether your a judge and have alot of political power or your nobody that works at a desk all day under paid. He is not afraid to say whats on his mind. He was the lawyer to a dear friend of mine, at first we were sceptical because we were going aginst well known lawyers here in Laredo and when we got to court he was talking to the judge and to the enemy but as soon as they said court in session, this other person came out. Greatly perfomed and excuted what no every other lawyer could not in Laredo, why??? because he didn't care that "oh this my cousin" "Oh my daddy works for the county" laredo is extremely corrupted peopel our judicial system is all political..Face it!! Almost everyone that works here for the county or city is crooked!

I know him personally and like him he has guts and self confidence, don't expect any public official to be perfect you won't find one, at least he's not a dual moral politician WHEN SOMEONE HAVE CHARACTER HAVE ENEMIES! they represent us and we are perfect! SO get a life loosers

ReplyDeleteI have heard good and bad comments about Keko Martinez...I dont personally know him, but the good thing is that Laredo has a new Comissioner that "Will do what is right". Good Job Laredo!!! Go Jaime Canales!!!

ReplyDeleteSergio Keko Martinez is a really good man. Now see Canales, he said in the tv debate that he will be a full time commissioner and as you can see, he work in UISD in and out whenever he wants, so all UISD employees should do that.
He can be all that, but without a doubt he is a bad ass lawyer. He's a master of his profession. Way to go Keko
