Ex-UISD Bus driver accuses district of unwarranted dismissal


Elizabeth Gonzalez, a former Employee of the department of transportation was fired by UISD officials for discrimination, she alleges.

Gonzalez says UISD fired her after the district required her to get fingerprinted. "I am uncomfortable because they did not give a specific reason for the requirement of the fingerprints; I worked as a bus driver since 2006 and never told me that this was obligatory.” Gonzalez says.

School districts obtained employees fingerprints is required by state law and unveils the employee’s criminal history if any. Gonzalez mentioned admitted that in 2004 she had problems in Federal Court upon being accused of assisting undocumented immigrants cross the border, though she was sentenced to probation without supervision because according to her, one of the witnesses of the case exonerated her.

"They accused me of throwing lies in my application for the employment in 2006 but I considered that I do not have criminal record because I did not went to prison and besides I carried my record of the police and was clean", Gonzalez indicated.
