Hutchison to be in Laredo for GOP campaign

After officially announcing a run for Governor of Texas just yesterday, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison will be in Laredo this Thursday at La Posada Hotel.

The state's senior U.S. senator has said she is stepping down from that post in order to run against Perry in the March 2010 Republican primary.

Hutchison is currently on the fall break from the senate and is touring all over Texas this week with stops at El Paso, Harlingen and Houston.

Councilman Gene Belmares and other prominet Republican leaders of Laredo will be on hand as she will make several remarks on the rally. Doors open at 8:45 at La Posada Hotel this Thursday, August 20.

Perry is the longest serving governor in Texas history and has been in office since 2000. There are no limits on how long a Texas governor can serve, but Hutchison suggests the limit should be two four-year terms.

Karen Hughes, the former spokeswoman and diplomat from George W. Bush's administration, and former House Majority Leader Dick Armey have joined Hutchison's campaign for Governor.

On the Democratic side, Tom Schieffer, an ex ambassador in the Bush administration and country singer "Kinky" Friedman have joined the race.
