Possible UISD tax increase coming soon

The United Independent School District is considering a tax increase for January 2010. Officials are proposing a two and a half cent increase per $100 to taxpayers. Board members will vote on the proposed increase in August.

  1. Please remember that they said last month they had a big increase in their budget. So it mean we all have to pay for raises. But in the LMT today it said that .01 for Debt Services, but we have had no new bonds since 2003. Our schools are in trouble and salaries are going up. When do we get a return for our money.

  2. There is a huge disconnect between the economic reality of an economic recession, and the business as usual attitude of government officials.

Laredo real estate values have plummeted more than 25% but appraisals for taxes have stayed the same or gone up. Now they want more money FROM A TAX INCREASE. TAXES should be brought DOWN but we do not have any business people on the board. They are all bureaucrats who believe that bigger is better regardless of the poor results. All businesses
should raise prices to keep up with the outrageous TAX INFLATION from UISD, WEBB & the CITY.
