In a recent media interview with a local news outlet had Councilman Gene Belmares and Mayor Raul Salinas fighting in words over the new WiFi system the city will implement. Belmares accuses Salinas of not doing his homework and bringing forth false news about the amount of money being spent on cameras. Salinas says Belmares is just a "salesman" and he has experience as an FBI agent in law enforcement. The new WiFi system should be completed by the end of this month and will cost taxpayers of Laredo over $900,000. Councilman Belmares is currently exploring a run for Mayor of Laredo in 2010. Salinas, the incumbent will run for re-election.
