Councilman Gene Belmares of district 6 has officially announced his campaign for Laredo Mayor. Belmares the lone Republican councilman will face incumbent Raul Salinas, Councilman Jose A. Valdez, Jr. and former Salinas campaign advisor Carlos Blanco, Jr. More candidates are soon to emerge. Taking a familar quote from George Bernard Shaw, Belmares says "People see Laredo and ask 'Why?' I see Laredo and ask 'Why not?
