EXCLUSIVE: Bill White to run for Texas Governor

Laredo Watch has confirmed from sources that Houston Mayor Bill White will place his hat in the ring for Texas Governor in the democratic primary.

White will make an official announcement Friday as he will give up his current campaign for Senator.

Prior to serving as mayor, White was a prominent businessman and later served as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1995. He was rated Governing Magazine's Public Official of the Year in 2007. White will be endorsed by Tom Schieffer, who dropped out of the race several weeks ago.

Other democrats in the race are Farouk Shami and Kinky Friedman.
