Laredo police officials are looking into ways to save the department money in these hard economic times. One of them is to freeze hiring of any new police officiers starting this fall. Police spokesman Joe Baeza says that this "shouldn't be any indication that Laredo is any more unsafe due to the fact that we're not sending anyone to the fall Academy--that's quite the contrary." Baeza went on to say that police officials are wating for new grants in the fall that will pave the way for new police officers in the spring of 2010.
